Polygon
About
Polygon is a scalable blockchain network that extends Ethereum by offering lower transaction costs and faster confirmation times. Its Proof-of-Stake architecture enables efficient transaction processing while remaining closely integrated with the broader Ethereum ecosystem. Polygon supports a wide range of decentralized applications and is secured by a distributed set of validators responsible for network consensus.
Staking
How Staking Works
POL holders can delegate their tokens to validators who help secure the Polygon PoS network and validate transactions. Delegators earn a share of the staking rewards generated by their chosen validator while retaining ownership of their tokens.
Unbonding Period
Polygon staking includes an unbonding period of approximately 80–82 checkpoints, which typically takes around 3–4 days. During this period, unstaked tokens remain locked and cannot be transferred.
Reward Mechanism
Validators earn rewards for participating in network consensus and checkpoint validation. These rewards are distributed to delegators after the validator's commission fee is deducted. Rewards are generated approximately every checkpoint and can be manually claimed and restaked.
Validator Performance and Risks
Polygon does not currently implement traditional token slashing for delegators. However, validators may be jailed or removed from the active validator set for prolonged inactivity or protocol violations, which can impact reward generation until normal operations are restored.
| Risk | Description |
|---|---|
| Validator Downtime | Prolonged inactivity may result in jailing and reduced rewards |
| Protocol Violations | Removal from the active set; no direct delegator slashing |
NOTE
Unlike most Cosmos SDK chains, Polygon does not slash delegators directly. However, validator performance directly impacts your reward continuity.
Vitwit Validator
Vitwit is an active validator on the Polygon network, contributing to network security, reliability, and decentralization. By delegating POL to Vitwit, token holders can participate in securing the network while earning staking rewards.
